[ISPOR] Towards Universal Health Coverage in Africa: The Role of HTA
Date:Aug 22,2024
Most African countries have made universal health coverage (UHC) a goal of their national health strategies. In order to strengthen commitments and accelerate the journey towards achieving UHC, countries must effectively address the challenges posed by expanding healthcare utilization. At this online seminar, experts from Africa will discuss the role of HTA in promoting UHC and share experiences and lessons learned on how to build health systems to implement HTA and how to use HTA to provide information for UHC decision-making. Dr. Tamara Kredo will discuss the crucial importance of minimizing silos in national evidence generation systems to support evidence-based decision-making, sharing her experience in South Africa and as a member of the Global Working Group GINAHTA, a collaboration between the Guide International Network (GIN) and the Health Technology Assessment Community (INAHTA). Dr. Justice Nonvignon will discuss how to use HTA to support policy decisions in Ghana and some HTA initiatives on the African continent. Dr. Sophie Faye will introduce the main findings of the World Health Organization''s 2021 global survey on HTA and health welfare programs, and gain a deeper understanding of the organization''s work in helping African countries establish HTA processes and policy frameworks. Sophie Faye will introduce the main findings of the World Health Organization''s 2021 Global Healthcare Technology Assistance (HTA) and Healthcare Welfare Program Survey, and gain a deeper understanding of WHO''s work in helping African countries establish HTA processes and policy frameworks.
